The Shishkabots competed at the 2018 Houston FIRST World Championship! We competed against over 400 FRC teams from all over the world in 10 matches with our robot and to earn awards. In addition to competing with our robot, we made friends with a wide variety of teams and learned about their cultures. The atmosphere was exciting and upbeat, and it was great to experience the support and “gracious professionalism” of other teams, both on the field and in the pits.

In the Turing Division matches, we improved significantly from our performance at Sacramento, earning a winning record of 3-2 on our second day. As a rookie team, we were ranked 47th out of 67 teams in our division. In the Hopper-Turing Division, we won the Rookie All Star Award for the second time this year.

Our team also spent a lot of time together even outside of the competition through eating multicultural food (Ethiopian, Indian, Tex-Mex, and Popeyes!) and watching movies during the trip. To celebrate our win, we enjoyed watching the live Einstein finals, toured the NASA Johnson Space Center, and finished off with a night of bowling! In fact, we were thrilled to see other FIRST teams around Houston as well.

We’re on our way back now, and although that means our season is over, we’re POWERED UP for our team activities this summer, offseason competitions, and the 2019 challenge!
